Basic Cleaning Supply List for Your Home
Whether you’re ready to dig in for your once-a-year deep clean or you just need to restock on some of the best products for your home, DaSilva Cleaning Services has put together a cleaning supply checklist to make sure you’ve got everything you need. Our DaSilva Cleaning Services professionals have developed a tried-and-true approach to house cleaning for more than many years in business, and we’ve learned some of the things that can make the biggest differences. Here is checklist for the cleaning supplies you’ll need for the spaces in your home:For the Floors
- Vacuum
- Bucket
- Rags or chamois mop
- Warm water mixed with basic dishwashing soap
If you have hardwood floors, and if they’ve been sealed with polyurethane (as most have), warm water mixed with basic dishwashing soap should do the trick, after you’ve vacuumed, swept, or dry-mopped. We recommend 1-2 tablespoons per 5-gallon bucket. The same solution will work on linoleum and tile; on tile, though, make sure you’re not soaking your grout lines with dirty water, as this can lead to discoloration.
For the Kitchen
- All-purpose cleaner
- Oven cleaner
- Stainless steel cleaner (if you have stainless steel appliances)
- Scrubbing sponges (buy a five-pack!)
- Microfiber cloths
- Warm water mixed with a basic dishwashing soap (for stone countertops)
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
- A few lemons
Use the all-purpose cleaner (like 409 or Simple Green) on countertops and other hard surfaces. Note: If you have marble, quartz, or granite in your kitchen, make sure you clean with only mild dish detergent and warm water; otherwise, you will break down the stone’s sealant over time. Clean your stainless steel sink by rubbing in baking soda with a sponge, then covering it with a little white vinegar. After the foam has dissipated, rinse clean and dry. Put two halves of a lemon down the garbage disposal and run the disposal to give your sink area a fresh, clean smell. (You can also use lemons to clean your cutting boards—simply squeeze and rub half a lemon on stubborn food stains and let it sit for a while before rinsing). Follow the manufacturer’s directions on any specialty kitchen cleaning products you buy, like oven cleaners and stainless steel cleaners.
For the Bathroom
- Toilet brush
- Grout and tile cleaner
- Grout brush
- All-purpose cleaner
A dedicated toilet brush is a must for controlling the spread of germs and keeping your toilet clean. When tackling the grout on your floor and in your shower, use a grout brush (or other small brush with firm bristles), and make sure you read the product specifications. All-purpose cleaners can be used on sinks and other hard surfaces (but see the kitchen tips above if you have granite or another stone).
For Living Areas/Bedrooms
- Glass cleaner
- Lint roller
- Extendable duster
- Vacuum
Use glass cleaner on the windows in your living areas and bedrooms (and on the other windows in your house). Tip: Use newspaper instead of paper towel to prevent streaking and cloth fuzzies. A lint roller works great on delicate surfaces, like pillows, especially if you have pets. And don’t forget about an extendable duster for those hard-to-reach ceiling fans and other nooks and crannies.
